Tutorial 5 of 6
Organise, share and export backups
Intermediate 6 min
Rename files, add notes, undo changes, reopen recent backups, export an inventory and send files to other apps.
Names, notes and order
- File name for restoring in the details sets the name a file gets when you download it. Names must be unique in the backup and cannot contain folders.
- Note for this file keeps a short reminder, for example “version before the kitchen redesign”.
- Backup notes above the summary keep notes about the whole backup.
- Move up and Move down change the order of the list; Remove from backup takes a file out.
Every change can be undone with Undo (Ctrl+Z) and redone with Redo (Ctrl+Y).
To remove several files, tick them and press Remove above the list. With the keyboard, move into the file list and press Delete to remove the selected files; Ctrl+A selects all files shown in the list.
Recent backups
Bundlekeep keeps your last twelve backups in this browser. Backup › Recent backups… lists them with their size and date. Open switches to one; Delete removes it from the browser only — downloaded backup files are not affected. Backup › New backup starts an empty one; the current backup stays in the list.
Share and export
- Backup › Copy backup link copies a link that contains the whole backup. It works only for small backups, and anyone who has the link can read everything in it.
- Export › Inventory (CSV) lists file names, apps, formats, sizes and SHA-256 checksums — handy for a spreadsheet or an archive record.
- Export › Restore checklist (Markdown) is the checklist from the restore tutorial.
- Backup › Print inventory prints the same table or saves it as a PDF.
Work with the other apps
Bundlekeep takes part in the App Bridge of the premium apps:
- When another app offers to open a JSON file in another app, choose Bundlekeep to add the file to your open backup.
- Send to another app… in the details, and the Export menu’s send commands, hand a project file, the inventory or the checklist to an app that accepts it.
Keyboard
Help › Keyboard shortcuts lists all keys. The single-key shortcuts A (add files), S (scan apps) and ? (this list) can be switched off there, for example if you use speech input.
Encrypt before you share
Backups are plain JSON. Help › Related tools leads to Local File Encryption Studio (password encryption in your browser), Hash & HMAC Calculator and File Format Doctor.
