Tutorial 2 of 6

Collect projects saved in your apps

Beginner 6 min

How the scan finds the projects other premium apps saved in this browser, what it reads and what it leaves out.

What the scan does

Most premium apps keep your recent projects in the browser’s own storage. Each app has its own storage area, and Bundlekeep cannot simply look inside another app. So the scan asks each app: Bundlekeep opens a small, hidden helper page of that app, the helper reads that app’s project lists read-only and hands copies of the projects back to Bundlekeep. Nothing is changed, deleted or moved in the app.

The helper only answers Bundlekeep, only after you press the scan button, and only reads a fixed list of project stores — for example Kerfwise cabinet projects and Form Studio recent projects, Flipline animations, pixel sprites, storyboards, motion projects, comic pages and exposure sheets, Lumina photo projects, palettes and drafts, Paperwell dossiers, Tonegrid patterns and the saved projects of every other app.

Run a scan

  1. Press Scan apps in the toolbar (or press S when single-key shortcuts are on). The dialog Scan apps for saved projects opens.
  2. Under Apps to scan every app is selected. Use Clear and tick only some apps if you want a smaller scan. The small text next to each app tells you how many stores Bundlekeep reads there.
  3. Press Scan selected apps. A progress bar and one box per app show what happens.
  4. Each found project has a checkbox with its name, the store it came from, its size and when the app last saved it. Projects that are already in your backup are marked Already in this backup and cannot be added twice.
  5. Untick what you do not need and press Add selected projects. The dialog closes and the projects appear in the file list with the source Saved in the browser.

You can scan again at any time with Scan again; Bundlekeep skips projects it already has.

Messages you may see

  • No saved projects found in this browser. The app has nothing saved here. Projects you made on another device or in another browser are not visible.
  • This app did not answer. Your browser blocked storage in embedded pages, which some strict privacy settings do. Open the app, save or export its projects as files and use Add files instead.
  • Saved items were skipped because they are not plain JSON projects or are too large. An item is not a plain JSON project (for example it contains binary data) or is larger than 10 MB.
  • More projects may exist than one scan can collect. A scan reads up to 200 records per store and 200 projects in total. Export the rest from the app.

What a scan never collects

  • Unsaved changes that are only in an open app tab — save in the app first.
  • Settings, preferences, themes and keyboard choices.
  • Files that apps keep beside a project: Paperwell keeps document files and Reelcraft keeps media files separately. Bundlekeep adds the project and warns you about the missing files.

When you are done, save the backup with Backup › Save backup file.

Next: Review files, warnings and checksums.
